yiva review and giveawayI have been taking melatonin to sleep for a while because of some adrenal health issues I am dealing with. I have tried pills you swallow whole and sub lingual melatonin, both of which make me have to take a lot more than I would like. When I was asked to review a Yiva product I was very excited about their melatonin tincture. As an herbalist I know that herbal tinctures allow the medicinal plant properties to enter the tissues faster allowing a lower dose of the plant extract to be more effective and quicker acting than other ways of taking the herb. I was hoping it would work the same with the melatonin.

Here is what Yiva Naturals says about their product:

“Melatonin has become a staple in many households across the country. With spotty success on a product with proven results, new brands hit the market almost daily. So what makes Melatonin different? Our scientists have developed a delivery mechanism that’s proprietary and proven. It starts with the understanding that Melatonin requires alcohol to dissolve and absorb the active ingredients that make the sleep-aid work. Melatonin by Yiva has created a unique and proprietary process of distillation that offers full absorption. This means you get a full-night’s sleep with just a fraction of the dosage “

I found that just one dropper full of Yiva tincture (approximately 1mg) works just as well as 5mg of the sub lingual melatonin I was taking. This allows me to get a safe, natural sleep quickly without throwing large amounts of hormones at my body. I love this because it will make weaning off of melatonin easier than it would have with sub lingual tabs. I can wean my self down to a very small dose quickly using this tincture. The dropper doses are easier to control than sub lingual tabs are. There aren’t any additional ingredients that can cause allergic reactions either, which is an extra bonus. The ingredients are water, alcohol, and melatonin. That is it!

Who is Yiva? Yiva Naturals offers alternative solutions to modern medicine. Their products are 100% natural, safe and effective. I actually chose one of their less popular products to try out. Their most popular products are Yiva Daily Balance and Yiva Fertility Boost, followed closely by their three different allergy relief formulas. They offer a 45 day money back guarantee so if you don’t love their products, you can get your money back. 1. Curious your thoughts on melatonin. I have heard many plusses and many negatives. Thx in advance. The main negatives are:
    1. it’s a hormone
    2. can interfere w/ adrenal / cortisol issues.

    • Amanda says:

Yes those are the negatives. I started taking melatonin instead of sleeping pills. My hormones have been out of whack for a long long time (working night shift in the hospitals in my late teens/early 20’s), I have adrenal deficiency that I have been working on for a while because of this. Part of that healing is weaning my self off of melatonin, or onto a lower dose. By slowly weaning my self off I am allowing my body to slowly remember it has to produce more, which is why I am loving the drop doses. Also, I can take .25mg, where in pill form the lowest dose you get is 1mg.

As for positives, if you need help to sleep (especially if it is just ocassionally) which is better, a hormone or a drug? I think becoming dependent on melatonin is something that can be a risk if people are taking it nightly but if it is a sometimes supplement, I don’t really have an issue with it. Other things that may help sleep like herbs are always my first choice, but sometimes the body needs a little kick in the behind to do what it needs to do that not even herbs can help with…. I guess that was the long answer lol.
