DIY Lavender Mint Bath and Body Set

Thanksgiving week is here. It is time to get serious about getting your handmade holiday gifts made! I will be posting handmade holiday sets for you to share this holiday season with family and friends.

People love getting sets of goodies that they can use together to enjoy the whole spa pampering experience, which is why we are including the recipe for bath salts, body butter, sugar scrub, and lip balm. This set is both relaxing and invigorating, and will leave the skin nourished, exfoliated, moisturized and most of all healthy. The combination of lavender and mint is wonderful to relieve stress, anxiety, and headaches.

***Supply ordering tip*** I love Mountain Rose Herbs. Their products are wonderfully priced and very high quality. Unfortunately their shipping takes a long time. If you would like to make these gifts ASAP then I would suggest ordering through Amazon. I have linked both through my affiliate links so you can get the supply you need and I can get a little bit of a kick back from the company. This costs you nothing extra, but allows me to support my blog and provide you the great content you have grown to love. Thank you for using these links! I very much appreciate it.

Here is your complete DIY Lavender-Mint Bath and Body Set

Lavender-Mint Bath Salts

peppermint lavender layered

This recipe is amazing as a nice relaxing bath. The herbs in the salts are optional. Watching them float in the bath is very zen like. When you drain the bath they stick to the sides so they don’t clog up the drain and are pretty easy to clean up. They also look nice in the jar. I prefer to use spearmint instead of peppermint essential oil since it isn’t as sensitizing, and is more friendly to sensitive skin.

Ingredients:

  • 4 parts Himalayan or Dead Sea Salts (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or Amazon HERE (himalayan) or HERE (dead sea))
  • 4 parts Epsom Salts (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or Amazon HERE)
  • 1 part Lavender Flowers (I usually get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE but I also love Starwest Botanical’s herbs and they sell through amazon HERE)
  • 1 part Peppermint Leaves (I usually get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE but I also love Starwest Botanical’s herbs and they sell through amazon HERE)
  • Lavender Essential Oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or doTERRA HERE)
  • Spearmint or Peppermint Essential Oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)
  • A jar to put them in. You can use anything from a Mason Jar (I like these with some raffia around the lid to make it pretty and a scoop like this), a swing top jar like this, or any other container to your liking.

Directions:

You can make these salts two ways, you can combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and pour them into your jar, or you can layer your ingredients to make the jar look pretty. If you chose to make them all in one big batch (which is great if you are making a huge batch of these salts for a lot of gifts) use 10 drops of essential oils per cup of bath salt mix. If you chose to layer your salts, use 2-3 drops of essential oil per layer. The amount of lavender and mint essential oil you use each is a personal preference. I like using them in even amounts.

Lavender-Mint Sugar Scrub

This sugar scrub is amazingly invigorating. It exfoliates away dead dry skin while the olive oil seals in moisture leaving the skin healthy and smooth. Again, in this scrub recipe the herbs are optional, but they add a wonderful color, texture, and depth to the scrub that you wouldn’t get with just the essential oils.

You can increase the ingredients in this recipe into larger proportions to make a huge batch at once to many several gifts at the same time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 C coarse sugar (I use this organic, fair trade brand HERE)
  • 1 Tbsp raw honey (I use a local raw honey, or something like THIS)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp  olive or jojoba Oil (You can get these oils from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or Amazon HERE and HERE)
  • 2 Tbsp Lavender Flowers (I usually get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE but I also love Starwest Botanical’s herbs and they sell through amazon HERE)
  • 2 Tbsp Peppermint Leaf (I usually get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE but I also love Starwest Botanical’s herbs and they sell through amazon HERE)
  • 10-15 drops Lavender Essential Oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or doTERRA HERE)
  • 10-15 drops Spearmint or Peppermint Essential oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)

Peppermint Lavender Scrub

Directions:

Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and put into the container of your choice. I love to use these because of the wide mouth and rustic look. This recipe fills two 8 oz containers like those linked above.

Lavender-Mint Body Butter

Ingredients:

  • 1 C Shea or Coca Butter (You can buy the butters from Mountain Rose Herbs or Amazon – Cocoa Butter HERE and Shea Butter HERE*PSA*Shea is a nut, so not a great gift for someone with a nut allergy.
  • ½ C Coconut Oil (THIS is the kind I use. I get it in bulk from Costco)
  • ½ C Olive or Jojoba Oil olive or jojoba Oil (You can get these oils from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or Amazon HERE and HERE) If you really want to get fancy you can infuse your oil in peppermint and lavender first. Here are the instructions.
  • 10-15 Drops Lavender Essential Oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or doTERRA HERE)
  • 10-15 drops Spearmint or Peppermint Essential oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)

Instructions

  1. Melt the shea or cocoa butter and coconut oil together using the double boiler method in a large pyrex bowl or glass mason jar.
  2. Once they are completely melted remove from heat, add olive or jojoba oil and essential oils and let set until cool. If you are using a stand mixer that uses a separate bowl (I have this one but I lust after this), pour the oil mixture into your mixing bowl before letting it cool. In the winter letting it set out side is the fastest way for it to cool down. You can also just put the bowl in the fridge.
  3. When the oil combination starts to create a thicker layer on the outside of the bowl, scrape the sides well and place it in the mixer. IF you are using hand beaters, scrape the sides and beat as you normally would.
  4. Beat the oil mixture until it turns white and forms peaks, being sure to scrape the sides of the bowl regularly.
  5. Put the butter into a container of your choice and enjoy the luxurious moisturizing power of this great body butter!
  6. This recipe makes enough to fill 1  20 oz container, 2 1/2 8 oz containers, or 5 4 oz containers.

Lavender-Mint Lip Balm

Peppermint lip

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil (THIS is the kind I use. I get it in bulk from Costco)
  • 1 tbsp. beeswax (Amazon HERE and Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa butter (Amazon – Cocoa Butter HERE or from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)
  • 2 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE)
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil (I get them from Mountain Rose Herbs HERE or doTERRA HERE)

Directions

  1. In a double boiler melt all oils on low heat (except essential oils) together until well blended.
  2. Remove from heat, add essential oils and stir.
  3. Pour into lip balm tubes or tins.
  4. Let the containers set for 10-15 minutes before capping.

We’re on a budget this year, and I’m loving the idea of making these for my friends. I had a wild idea to use Earl Grey tea with lavender in a scrub. Have you ever tried that? Any reason tea is a bad scrub ingredient? Thanks so much! Love your site!
